The client is a Lagos-based creative agency that had outgrown its previous space and wanted a new studio that matched the quality of the work they produce. The brief came in one sentence: make the studio the best part of the pitch. They wanted a workspace that clients would notice before the presentation started.
The site in Yaba is a ground-floor industrial unit — concrete columns on a 7.2-metre grid, exposed roof trusses, and three months of lease before the clients needed to move in. We designed the interior around the structural grid rather than against it: every zone, every workbench, every meeting space is resolved within the structural bay. Nothing competes with the ceiling.
Materials are direct: polished concrete floors, raw steel framing for the perimeter partitions, and a library wall in solid pine that spans the full depth of the studio and acts as the primary acoustic treatment. The lighting was designed in three separate circuits to allow the studio to shift from working environment to presentation venue in minutes. The project was completed in 11 weeks.
Yaba is Lagos's emerging technology and creative district, home to the city's startup ecosystem, co-working spaces, and an increasing concentration of architecture and design studios. The site is close to Herbert Macaulay Way, with excellent road access and proximity to the University of Lagos.
